The barque 'Hugh Fortescue' was built in Topsham 1865 for the China trade, and was the last sailing vessel in the Holman Fleet. The painting shows 'Hugh Fortescue' in Yokohama on her maiden voyage in 1866. The caption on the frame reads "Barque 'Hugh Fortesque' (note incorrect spelling).
